We’re back! Let’s listen to Hadley talk about Ernest and Paul, fishing, and “men of value”
Hi Friends,
I have missed you so much and missed the camaraderie we have created here on these pages! I am back online with a lot of support from family and friends. They have helped me line up some great new posts and features for The Hemingway Project.
I thought I would start with a new audio clip of Hadley. Next week I will be posting a story about the last five months of my life, which have been crazy to say the least. After that, I will be publishing regular posts with book reviews, interviews, and much more. In an upcoming Hadley clip, we will be posting the fascinating conversation between Alice and Hadley about Bumby’s experiences as a soldier in World War II.
In the audio clip below, Hadley talks about fishing with Paul and Bumby and meeting with Ernest Hemingway unexpectedly in Yellowstone Park. Fishing was something Bumby and Hadley learned from Hemingway and enjoyed all of their lives. Hadley tells the story with her own gentle humor, ending with her opinion of what a man of value is.

All the best,
Allie

Thank you for sharing this, for doing all of this, and for coming back to it. I enjoyed hearing her speak. I am in the process of reading “The Paris Wife” after just reading the non-fiction version of their marriage. Thanks again and welcome back!
Thank you Kevin
The Hadley audio clips will mean so much more to you now that you know a lot of the back story. I’m so glad you enjoy the blog, I sure enjoy doing it!
Allie
You’ve made my day with this-once again:-) . Gracias, Grazie, Merci, and Thanks a bunch, Allie Baker.
Good to see you back Allie! Did I read somewhere that Hadley and Ernest only saw each other once after their divorce? Would this be the meeting?
So glad you and Hadley are back, Allie. I relish seeing more of what you’re planning on posting.

Robert,
Thank you so much my friend, for your words here and on Facebook. It has been an epic journey for me to get back to these pages, and I am so grateful for the interesting readers and friends I’ve found here
Thank you, Allie
Hi Marianne,
Yes, I think this was the last time they saw each other. I remember reading somewhere that Hemingway called Hadley from Cuba while he was working on “A Moveable Feast.” He called to clarify the names of people and the chronology of events that had happened during their years in Paris. Knowing him as well as she did, she was very sad after the phone call because of his mental state at that time. I will try to find a reference for this –
All the best! Allie
Thank you Gary
I think some the features will be fun!
All the best, Allie
Such a wonderfully interesting clip (as they all are) and another one you’ve hit out of the park. Welcome back, Allie! We’ve missed you greatly!
Thank you Joe –
One of the benefits of being on the sidelines for awhile, is being able to finish so many of the writing projects I’ve started!
Thank you for your comment
Allie
So glad to see you back and able! You’ve been missed — I know I worried greatly about you. Be well, my friend.
Sorry to hear that you have been so unwell but I’m very glad you’re back to blogging and doing the Hemingway Project. Look forward to reading more from you.
Hi Joan,
Great to hear from you. I have so missed my online friendships! Did you finish your book about the Moors? I have a unrealistically huge stack of books on Spain to get me through the winter. I would love to read yours too, when its finished. I look forward to having cofee on the balcon with you next year With love, Allie
Woah! I’m гeally loving the template/theme of tɦis blog. It’s
simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s hard to get that “perfect balance” between sᥙperb usability and visual appeal.
I muѕt say you have done a sᥙpeгƅ job with this. Also, the Ьlog
loads ѕuper fast for me on CҺrome. Outstanding Blog!
